Does Alicia Have The Keyes To Fashion?

I have always contended that Alicia Keyes was a fashionable, attractive young lady; while from the neck down she looks exquisite, her makeup leaves much to be desired. It appears that her makeup artist was channeling Casper when they chose her palette.

I realize that applying makeup can be a difficult feat, and for that I am going to offer 10 easy tips.

What you will need:

Foundation - choose a color that is an exact match to your natural skin tone

Concealer - choose a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation

Eye Shadow Brushes

Blush Brush

Facial press or loose Powder

multi colors of Blush

Waterproof Mascaras

multiple Lipsticks

Powder eyebrow shadow

multiple lip glosses

Multiple colors of eye shadow

Step 1. After completing your normal daily cleaning and moisturizing ritual, apply a concealer to every blemish, under-eye circles and blend with your fingertips or a sponge.

Step 2. Apply the foundation by placing small dots all over the central part of your face, then blend it out with a makeup sponge or your fingertips until it covers your entire face

Step 3. Take your loose or pressed powder and blot all over the neck, face, and chest. Keep your powder with you throughout the day and reapply your powder once every hour.

Step 4. Take the powdered eyebrow shadow and apply it with a hard, slanted brush.

Step 5. Choose three colors of eye shadow: light, medium and dark. Use the dark only to line your upper eyelid, in a fairly thin line along the upper lashes. Use the medium shade for the crease and the lightest shade for the area under the eyebrow. There are many variations on eye shadow application techniques, and dob the bottom lid with the edge of a slanted brush to make your eyes POP.

Step 6. Apply eyeliner. Use a cake eyeliner with a damp, thin liner brush, or an eyeliner pencil, and line the lower lid below the lashes. Line only the outer two-thirds of the lower lid, or all the way across if you're trying to achieve a darker look. Line all the way across the upper lid (just above the lash line and as close to the lashes as possible), or start the line where your lashes begin.

Step 7. Apply mascara to upper and lower lashes, in two thin coats to avoid clumpiness. Choose brown mascara if your coloring is fair; black or brown-black works well for darker coloring. Or try a colored mascara such as navy or plum for fun, but don't go too bright if you want to be taken seriously.

Step 8. Smile to find the apples of your cheeks, and apply blush to the apples or below, whichever you prefer. If you have to blend in blush, it's too bright. Feather it, don't make it look like someone slapped the sh**yeah that word out of you.

Step 9. Choose a lipstick color that's suited to your skin tone and that's perfect for your day look. You can mix colors and textures to suit your moods and your outfits

Step 10. Line lips after applying lipstick, not before. That way you won't end up with a dark circle of lip liner after your lipstick has worn off. Avoid combining very dark lip liner and pale lipstick.

Following these steps will make you look natural and not like a clown, ghostlike or even like a ghoul.

Justin Timberlake on Fashion Rocks

For quite sometime, I have been on the fence about Justin Timberlake (JT); however, I must say that though his fashion is questionable, is indeed Swaggernistical. He looks and feels comfortable in anything, and wears a suit rather nicely.

Recently, in an interview with Fashion Rocks Magazine, Justin Timberlake admitted that he does not try to be fashionable. He even jokes that he was the one that made the Trucker Cap a fashionable accessory. "It's funny, I keep hearing Ashton Kutcher say how he was responsible for trucker caps,” says Timberlake. "I’ve heard him make that statement before . . . Trace [his best friend] and I were wearing them when we were seventeen."

Whatever the case may be, Timberlake has made the cover of Fashion Rocks September magazine, as they find him to be Givenchy's creme de la creme.

*To ensure that your breath does not meet your audience five feet before you do, after brushing, flossing and each time you eat gargle for 5 – 7 seconds. For extra clean breath, when the taste wears off (about an hour after gargling) re-gargle or refresh your gum. Oh, and for the gum chew mint, peppermint or something of the sort sugarless gum. Unless you have Hollywood Teeth, paper white teeth are not believable. Get regular whitenings and bleaching, but steer away from the paper white look –this does not make someone believe your oral cleanliness.

*Rough hands and feet does not mean ‘manly’. To avoid this, each time you wash your hands or bathe, lotion with a deep moisturizing lotion and get bi-weekly manicures and pedicures. If you are not secure in going to a salon, having your lover snip, clip, buff and lotion for you is great fore-foreplay.

*Steer way of pungent deodorant, use unscented. You do not want your natural odor, cologne and deodorant to create an repulsive aromatic fight around you, like the Peanut Gang member Pig Pen on Charlie Brown.

*To ensure a nice, smooth, pimple free skin, unclog you pores at least once a week with an exfoliating scrub. Follow that with a nice, smooth over with a toner, and moisturize.

***Important lips, unless you are trying to give the Wendy Williams ‘How You Doing’ face with a faux flare of LL Cool J, avoid having shiny lips. Care for your lips by keeping your old toothbrushes. Brush your lips, softly, to remove all of the dead skin. Then apply a thin layer of petroleum based lip balm. Remove the excess luster by blotting your lips with a tissue. Do a few lip push-ups and you are then ready to go.***

*When it comes to your hair:
1. wash your hair daily with a shampoo that is ph balanced; shampoo your hair 3 times before the final rinse.
a. each time you wash, condition. Moisturize your hair. Conditioner is exceptionally essential

for people with dry hair.

c. dry your hair in a downward stroking method with a 1000+ wash hair dryer.

d. style your hair using a hair brush composed of natural bristles; for persons with long styles,

use a wide-toothed comp to avoid tangling.

***Being frugal when it comes to haircare products is not a plus, even in this economy. Cheap products will either dry out your hair or grease it up.***

e. get regular haircuts and trims from your trusted barber.

Following these tips will earn you points with your lover, increase your swagger and confidence.

Important Tips To Be A Well-groomed Man

Recently, I had a discussion with a few of my frat brothers and friends, some that believed that personal; hygiene ended after bathing, and others that felt that manicures, pedicures and the occasional massage were key elements of being well-groomed.

Point, blank, period, being well groomed is invaluable to maintaining one’s appearance. While some women like men that simply brush and bathe, a large majority feels that attractiveness is obtained by involving much more.

Since the inception of male inspired grooming products and services, male appearance have evolved; as well as what is expected of a well-groomed man. Literally, there are grooming products available for every aspect of male grooming. Products for facial care, hair maintenance, and oral hygiene are only a few examples of the many products available for men.

People often misconstrue grooming with being restricted to personal hygiene only. There is a substantial number of stores and salons that offer grooming services created with the intent of servicing men.

My Blog-cation

I recently took a vacation from blogging. While I was on vacation, I ran into some Faux Swagger Fashion Fashionistas and Fashionnistos, and some Super Swagger Fashionistas and Fashionnistos. One of the worse Swaggeredies (Swagger Tragedies) that I ran into were people nott dressing for their fashion types; see Women: What Body Type Are You? and Men: What Body Type Are You. People, I cannot stress how important it is to know and dress for your body type. I ran into a lady that had a lot of hip action going on, and because she did not know and dress for her body type, she accentuated the portion of her body that she really needed to obscure. The next weekend, I ran into a gentleman that not only accentuated the unprepossessing portion of his body, he had HBO (horrible body odor). My vacation was rather interesting,, to say the least.

What do I have to lose?

I was posed with a question, that actually caused me to think. I was having lunch with a few friends, and they asked me, okay Kyn, now since you have turned 30, what does the next decade hold for you? What's next for Style Master Image and Consulting? I had to admit, I was taken back for a moment. I had gotten comfortable in the life that I have built for myself, and while I often boast about the fact that I one day want to open an establishment that caters to men, looking to increase and maintain their swagger. Outside of perfecting the idea, I have not made any strides toward making my dream a reality.

I immediately became convicted by the question. I have a wife that has stated timeless times that she will support my dream, all I have to do is step out on faith. We are at a good point in our lives, we don't have children to add into the equation, we both have an entrepreneurial spirit, and the love and support of one another. So, what do I have to lose? If I am successful, I have legacy for my children. If I fail, at least I can say that I gave my dream a good try.

So over the next several months, I am going to be interviewing for a small business consultant, that can help this artistic pallette maintain his focus, and to help me remember that while I have Perrier-Jouet Champagne and Podolico Cheese taste, I have Milwaukee beer and California grape pockets.

Mercedes Benz Spring/Summer 2009 Berlin Fashion Week

Mercedes Benz hosted its Berlin Spring/Summer 2009 Fashion Show this week. The week was filled with some rather artistic shows presented by: Basso & Brooke with their seeming fashion homage to King Louis XIV; JOOP!Jeans; Lac Et Mel, with its seeming glimpse into a Wiccan Initiation; Sissi Wassabi; and Susanne Weib, whose show was boring with the exception of the models foot candy.

There was no common theme amongst the shows; however, there was a frequent appearance of a bow adorned waistline. It is my sincere hope and desire that the fashion for Spring/Summer 2009 evolves as more designers present; otherwise, we stylist will have to depend on the Ready-to-Wear shows to fashion our clients with.

Let's look at the Basso & Brooke Show. Basso & Brooke are lovers of fine art, and their love of the arts bleeds onto their sketches, mannequins, models and ultimately the runway. As I studied the collection all I could think was 'Louis XIV' would be ever so proud that his invention of style and art lives on even into the 21st Century.

Next we have JOOP!Jeans. While there is only so many ways to invent, reinvent, and re-reinvent the skinny jean, JOOP! did not fail to introduce it gain, but with a twist, leather skinny jeans leggings. I must say that I like this look, and with the right fashionista client, would challenge her to rock it to a party or two. Good going Wolgang Joop! Quick reminder 'Joop' is pronounced 'yoop'.

When I began to study Lac Et Mel's line, I must admit I became frightened by the theme of the show. It resembled the collection of Witch's Coven initiating new Wiccan's into their coven. The palette was rather boring, but the fashion was visible. I am just afraid of the line and the theme.

Sissi Wassabi presented a rather interesting and thought provoking lines. There were many pieces that I could work with, and after seeing her models, I am very eager to fashion someone with the bow-belt.

Susanne Weib. What can I say? I was not impressed at all. Had it not been for the shoes, and one model's cat nude tattooed cat suit, I probably would have fallen asleep on the line. But the shoes were fabulous and would give even Carrie Bradshaw a tingle.

Overall Berlin was Berlin and I was bored nonetheless. What are your thoughts Fashionistas and Fashionistos?

In Honor of Ultraviolent Safety Awareness Month

July is UV Safety Awareness Month. Dermatologists and Ophthalmologists strongly suggest that the eyes and skin is covered at all times, protecting it from exposure to sunlight.

Many people are unaware that natural and artificial sunlight can cause tragic damage to the skin and eyes; causing cosmetically unappealing lesions and tumors on the skin, and cataracts and growths on the eyes. It is suggested that wide brimmed hats are worn to shield the skin from UV rays, and it is also suggested that sunglasses are worn to protect the eyes from direct and indirect sunlight.

Q: I found this site from my homey Sane page and I am ecstatic! Great tips. I will definitely start shopping for black tights and purple dresses etc. Question: What do you think about leopard leggings with a black tunic?

A: First of all, Sane thank you so very much for your patronage and constant publicity. Next, I am really happy that you are pleased with the information showed on my site. To answer your questions, black tights are the go for the season, as is various prints. I would strongly suggest you freaking the fashion industry, by adding an individual twist; that being styling the leopard leggings, with a black tunic top and either a metallic flat, or patent leather Mary Jane pumps, an oversized bag, a large bangle, solid colored medium to large beads and don't forget the Nicole Ritchie sunglasses. If you want to really turn heads, Practice the Carrie Bradshaw, by ensuring that your purse is a strong constrast to your outfit. If you have on tights or leggings that are printed, a solid Red tunic, your patent Mary Jane pumps, try a metallic silver purse, or a Green. Doing this will truly make a style statement, showing that you are strong, individual that dances to the beat of your own drum. It is not what your mother taught you to do, but it is truly fashion forward and enchanting.

Ask The Style Master Question of The Week

Q: Swag, how do you feel about men in fitted suits like the guy in the second pic? As a black man, do you rock those too? And if so, is it a preference?

A: Thank you so much for your question. Like women, I do not feel that Fashion as heavily focused on race, as it is on body type. While some cultures may not feel comfortable in certain looks, true fashion is based on body type. That poses another question, concerning designers designing for only one ethnicity's body type. Having said that, I feel that if a man has the appropriate body type to look fashionable in a fitted suit, then he should step out and do it, as the baggy look has become a look of the past and has been replaced with fitted and relaxed fits. We must always remember that men's fashion is classic; I mean, really, how many ways can you reinvent the suit, shirt and necktie?? Men should really steer clear of filling their closets with fashion fads, as they become extinct as quickly as they are introduced. To answer the remainder of your question; personally, I do not have the body type to wear a fitted suit, because I have a true black male body type; however, I do favor a three button, relaxed fit, plain front suit, with pants hemmed with a full break cuff, a pointy toe shoe, a striped colored shirt and a bold printed tie, without the Windsor knot. Fall and Winter Fashion Tips for Women

I received an e-mail from a female reader asking that I post an article for women geared toward Fall 2008/Winter 2009 Fashion. When a reader asks, I will respond. So here goes.

For a woman to be fashion forward and Swaggerful in Fall 2008/Winter 2009 her closet and color palette will need to be composed of various shades of purple. Famous American designers: DKNY flapper fringes, silks, tafettas, rich velvets and sexy body-clinging silhouettes from women’s fashion designers Hervé Leger, Costello Tagliapetra, Diana Von Furstenberg and Oscar De La Renta, introduced Purple Passion during New York’s Fashion Week in February. The reason for the color selection is seemingly to help promote the ‘Year of The Woman’ in many cultures and religions, the modish color represents imperialism, femininity and overall dominance. So to increase your inner ‘Queen’ fill your closet with plums, amethysts, egg plants, grapes, and violets.

When it comes to shoes and purses, all Fashionistas and aspirants must learn to appreciate animal skins, other than cow hide. Reptiles are the look for the season; crocodile and python are the skins for fall. Donna Karan introduced the look during New York’s Fashion Week. As for everyday and weekend looks, metallic silver flats are a must. The are comfortable, stylish and can go with virtually anything. Remember, I said METALLIC SILVER; I don’t want you to go out and get metallic gold flats and end up being mistaken as an extra from ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

Fall in love with Black Tights, buy them, wear them, love them. Black tights are a must for Fall 2008/Winter 2009.

Next, become a fan of prints and do not be afraid to mix prints. Now, I am not saying have on a polka-dot blouse, plaid jacket, pin stripe skirt, black tights and python ankle pumps, I am saying that if you have on a pin stripe skirt, with the then stripes, it is okay to wear a checked blouse or a striped blouse; the key is to mix and match patterns that are not overwhelming. The patterns should be soft, so as to not look like a battleground of prints. Any solid article with a hint of patterns at the hemline, neckline, or sleeve is also sufficient, but don’t be a boring palette of solids!

For the corporate Fashionista, convertible outfits are a must. What is a convertible outfit; it is an outfit that is composed of a 9 – 5 look, and for cocktails with the boss with the addition or subtraction of a layer can transform into a chic evening look.

Women, please do not cover your swaggerfilled outfit with an old frumpy coat; instead grab yourself a Cocoon Coat. The look allows the true fashionista to feel less constrained in her clothing, while allowing her accentuate her black tights adorning a foot that is fashioned with a croc or python pump.

Politically Speaking - WHY Jesse???

I am more than merely disappointed in Jesse Jackson's gross negligence, in condemning Barack Obama. I am a strong believer in maintaining a united front against all odds...perhaps that is my NPHC training. Family business, should be family business. I can appreciate the fact that he said he thought his mic was off; however, I must say the proper, courteous and gentleman thing to do, would be to have had the so-called conversation he wanted to have with Barack concerning the way that he addresses African American, and leave the discussion between the two of them, and not you, me and Dupree! It was utterly distasteful, disrespectful, rude, crude and socially unacceptable for Jesse Jackson, one who spent the better part of 5 minutes of his 8 minute press conference pleading his case as an African American rights activists, to insinuate that Senator Obama was *censored* cutting off his manhood in his dealings with African Americans.

Spotted Fashion at Day 1 of The Essence Music Festival

Women: What Body Type Are You?

After receiving several e-mails from my female readers concerning fashion don'ts for women and women's body shapes, I decided to post a blog on the same topic for women.

Everyone has a body type, and unlike men, women's body types are determined by where they carry their weight and the frame of their bodies. More often than not, extremely slender women are challenged when attempting to determine their body shape, because there is little fat to measure; this does not prevent them from determining their shape, it just forces them to have to pay closer attention to other clues that defines the body shape.

Unlike men, women have 4 basic body types, they are:

The Pear or Triangle- Like a pear or triangle is smaller on top, and gradually increases as you look down, a woman with this body shape has an upper body that is distinctly smaller than the lower body; hip and thigh areas. When weight is gained, it is gained in the hip and thigh areas. Typically a person with this body shape has:
-a long, slender neck with sloping shoulders
-small to medium bust size
-a defined waistline
-full thighs

The Tulip or Inverted Triangle - Like a diamond or inverted triange is larger is on top, and gradually decreases as it goes down, a lady with this body shape is obviously larger on top, the breast area, and thinner in the lower regions, the hips and thighs. When weight is gained, it is gained in the breast area only. Typically a person with this body shape has:
-Broad Shoulders
-Full Breast
-Full Undefined Waist
-Narrow Hips
-Flat buttocks
-Shapely legs

The Hour Glass - Like an hour glass is proportionately large on top, thin in the middle, and large on bottom, a woman with this body shape has a full bust line, with a thin waist and stomach area, and rounded hips that are proportioned to her bust area. This person is very curvaceous. When weight is gained and lost, it happens proportionately in the chest and hip and thigh areas. Typically a person with this body shape has:
-Hips and bust are symmetrical
-Full bust
-Defined waistline
-Extremely curvaceous regions: breast, hips and legs

The Rectangle - Like a rectangle is evenly proportioned top to bottom, so is a lady with a rectangle shape. There are no defined curves and weight is distributed proportionately throughout the body. Typically a person with this body shape has:
-Undefined average sized breast
-Undefined waistline
-Long, slim legs
-Broad back

Unlike male body types, women body types are not changeable with exercise and dieting as the body type is heavily defined by the frame of the body. It is important for one, male and female, alike, to know his or her body type and how to dress it, as it prevents less of a fashion headache in the end.

Meet Rhythmic Soul

From time to time, while surfing the net I come across swaggerful websites and articles that really pique my interest. During one of my internet voyages, I ran across a blog entitled Rhythmic Words. As perused the blog, I found a lot of entertaining information, with a twist of humor, seasoned with poetry. After reading many of the authors writings, and viewing his artistic works I felt strongly that this gentleman was on the road to becoming a Swaggeristical individual. He writes in a stream of consciousness manner that everyone can relate to. In an interview, the author explained his views on fashion, style and swagger; he also presented freestyle poem on fashion. Without further adieu, I present to some and introduce to others, Rhythmic Words.

TSM: What inspires you to be creative?
RW: Expression definately inspires me. To show others who I am by simply expressing myself and making sure everything I do has a distinctive part of "me" in it. A persons creativity can shine through by just being themselves, I've learned when you intently try to be creative
that's when it can come off forced and a bit stifled.

TSM: I can agree with that; in addition to being an Image Consultant, I am a playwright and song writer. When I sit down and say that I am going to write, I hate what the computer says; however, when I am doing other things and my mind is wondering, to and fro, storylines start to become scripts and my surroundings become a song. Not to get off on a tangent about myself, let's continue. Next question, lyrically speaking how would you define 'swagger'?
RW: I think swagger is definately a state of mind. How you view yourself, how you view life and how resilient you are in life.

TSM: This is true. Often times, we lose focus of what allows one to be swaggerful, and that is having the right mindset and being secure in yourself. I feel that swagger is like a tree with many branches, while there is one common cause, you, there are several parts of you that defines your swagger. That brings me to my next question. In your opinion, would you say that a person can have swagger but not be fashionable? Why or why not.
RW: Many associate swagger with being just the physical appearance, what they're wearing and how they're wearing it... I think it goes much deeper than that... its the way you carry yourself not only to others but your overall view of yourself... without that self actualization to back up those shiny shoes and designer clothes, the masquerade will eventually come to an end and regardless of how "fly and flashy" you may be, that insecurity will seep through.

TSM: I agree wholeheartedly. I know you are a busy man, so this will be my last question. If you could define yourself, lyrically, focusing on swagger, what would you say?
RW:Who am I is who I
Too effortlessly me for repression
All eyes focused on where I stand
I am head to toe expression

I light up the room
Dance to my own tune
Commanding attention
Arousing suspicion

From the shoes on my feet
To the crown on my head
You can take all the extras
Ill rock the fedora instead

The life of the party
Appearance is hardy
I rock my own style
And smile all the while

Am I fashion forward? No
Im just my own form of dapper
With a strong sense of self

I must admit, it is rare that I am speechless, but this line has me in a search for words that is trully uncanning. TRUST, this line does not get the Swaggeristical Seal of Approval. The Style Master's Top 10 Fashion Don'ts For Men

As I travel, meet new people, or review periodicals, I see so many things that are just Fuax Fashion and Anti-Swaggeristical.

10. If you are tall and slender, do not wear vertical stripes, not even pin-stripes. You are already tall, and there is no need to accentuate your height.

9. If you are vertically challenged, do not, I repeat, DO NOT wear cuffed trousers, long suit jackets, nor anything fitted. You do not want to look like a child wearing his father's clothes. Baggy/relaxed is the way to go; include window pane plaids, horizontal stripes and pin stripes to create a taller illusion.

8. If you are round, do not wear over accentuated clothing or anything bulky. You do not want to draw attention to your size, but rather deflect it. Pin stripes, dark colors and solids are your friends.

7. Do not get tattoos or piercings in strange conspicuous places; even if you are secure in yourself, the public is not.

6. When wearing slacks, if you want to publicize the fact that you are Fashionably Challenged, ensure that your pant has a pile of fabric covering your heel and wobbling around the ankle. Trousers should reach your shoes, not cover them. Cuffs are purely discretionary.

5. Do not wear dirty sneakers or shoes that have not been shined, under any circumstances, it causes people to question your overall hygiene. This is the first thing women pay attention to.

4. Do not let a week past without going to the barbershop for a cut or touch up.

3. Do not wear a watch and bracelet on the same arm, rings on fingers other than the ring and pinky fingers, or stack multiple rings on your fingers. Not only will you look like a cheap used car salesman or door to door vacuum cleaner salesman, but you are displaying a 'flashy' image.

2. Never leave home without a pocket of breath mints (after you have brushed, flossed and scraped your tongue). Women, well no one for that matter wants to meet your breath before they meet you!

1. Never forget to clean, shape and clip your fingernails, nothing says bad hygiene like a man with long dirty nails!

Men: What Body Type Are You?

As I prepare for my 30th birthday, next week, there are several things that I must begin to and always take into consideration as I approach a new plateau in life. One of those things, is being aware of my body type and ensuring that I dress it appropriately.

There is a grave misconception amongst the general public, and that is that men have it easier when it comes to dressing for their body type. While, a man and a woman's body types are considerably different, they both require a great deal of study when it comes to properly dressing for it; however, before learning how to dress the body type, the individual must understand his body type.

Male body types fall into one of three body types:

Ectomorph: tall and slim/thin.

Endomorph: round abdomen, and soft body parts.

Mesomorph: muscular, well-proportioned; athletic

Body types can be changed and or maintained. For an Ectomorph that wishes to remain an Ectormorph, or a Endomorph or Mesomorph desiring to become an Ectomorph, he should participate in regular aerobic exercises, being careful to involve all of the muscle groups. Good examples would be: running, yoga, pilates and/or swimming. The individual should maintain a steady pace and never over-exert or under accomplish. Endomorph's will need to decrease caloric intake, in order to increase the body's metabolism. The Endormorph will also need to refrain from all junk foods, sugary foods, drinks and fruit. For an Endomorph wishing to maintain his body type, simply eat, sleep and drink beer. For an Mesomorph desiring to maintain his status, or for a Ectomorph or Endomorph wishing to become a Mesomorph, the individual should practice a disciplined exercise regiment that isolates each muscle group, where he will practice 'shock training'. Shock Training is a form of training where an individual starts off slow and then suddenly burst into weight bearing exercises. The exercise regiment should be cyclical within each of the muscle groups. The individual should take very short relax periods and practice doing performing the exercises in defined repetitions. Again, the endomorph's will need to decrease his overall caloric intake, and refrain from all junk foods, sugary foods, drinks, fruits and fruit juices.
